Does This Program Fill Cavities?

Unfortunately, when children require urgent restorative dental work, such as fillings for cavities, this preventative dental program can only refer them to a private dental office for the needed work. If cavities are left unattended, they can lead to more severe, and expensive, complications later on, so we strongly advise seeking a dentist for fillings.

Can You Treat an Abscess?

Dental abscesses must be treated at a private dental office. If we find an abscess during the dental screenings we perform, we will emphasize this concern on the parent/guardian letter that’s sent home, plus we will call within 24-48 hours of the appointment to ensure parents/guardians are aware of the need to seek treatment. A dental abscess originates from a bacteria infection that forms when there is tooth decay or if a tooth is chipped since the tooth’s enamel now has an opening for bacteria to enter. The resulting accumulation of pus that forms in the teeth or gums can cause pain and create serious problems if left untreated. A clinical sign that the tooth is infected is a “pimple-like” lesion that appears on the gums. It is advised to take dental abscesses very seriously and have them treated at a private dental office as soon as possible to prevent the infection from spreading.
